The Trustees of Davidson and Sumner Counties will take applications for the senior property tax freeze program at Goodlettsville City Hall during August. The service is being provided to accommodate senior property owners in the City of Goodlettsville who may find it difficult or inconvenient to travel to the respective county trustee offices to apply.
Senior citizens meeting the qualifying criteria of the program can have the county and city property taxes on the property of their principal place of residence frozen at the amount it was in the year they initially qualified even if there is a property tax rate increase. Davidson and Sumner Counties and the City of Goodlettsville all participate in the tax freeze program.
Sumner County residents of Goodlettsville must call the Sumner County Trustee’s office at 452-1260 to make an appointment to apply at Goodlettsville City Hall on August 26th and 27th. Davidson County senior residents must call the Davidson County Trustee’s office to make an application appointment for dates beginning August 11th.
To qualify for the freeze, senior property owners must also be 65 years of age or older by the end of the year and have income from all sources not exceeding a county maximum. In 2008, the income limit in Sumner County is $31,280. In Davidson County, the limit is $35,390. Qualifying property owners must reapply each year to remain qualified to participate in the program.
