"Good Lovin’ and the Brain" Is Kiwanis Topic Valentine's Day
"Good Lovin’ and the Brain" will be presented at the Kiwanis Club of Madison on Wednesday, February 14, just in time for Valentines’ Day. The club meets at Skyline Medical Center in the Auditorium at noon.
Julie Cummins, LCSW, a therapist in the Partial Hospitalization Program at Skyline Madison Campus, will discuss the differences between the sexes and provide some tips for men about women and for women about men. Since her job involves counseling people, many of whom have relationship challenges, she is well qualified to broach the topic.
Examples of unhealthy relationships, or at least unhealthy responses to relationships, are often in the news, she said. In fact, just in the past week NASA has announced that it will be reviewing its psychological screening processes following a love triangle scandal involving one of its astronauts.
"We will focus on how we can better use our brains for good loving, or for building strong and healthy relationships."
Cummins has worked at the hospital, formerly Tennessee Christian Medical Center, since the PHP opened in January of 2000. A Partial Hospitalization Program is a weekday program designed as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization. It allows for a highly structured program of therapy and support services for adults experiencing serious mental health challenges.
Skyline Madison Campus, a facility of Skyline Medical Center, is located in the heart of Madison at 500 Hospital Drive. With the region’s most comprehensive mental health and chemical dependency services, care is provided in a variety of formats to best accommodate the individual patient - from inpatient care, to partial hospitalization to intensive outpatient care.
